In my thoughts, the darkness of truth and my self-awareness are flashes that explore my connection to the universe. It is a kind of intimate awakening between the internal and the external, between the individual and the universal, between the material and the spiritual. This contrast leads me to consider the complexity of the human experience of our impermanence and how it interacts with the different dimensions of reality. Understanding the emptiness of our fleeting existence means connecting with a series of reflections on the soul and its relationship with nature, which opens a gateway to parallel realities. Within this context, my photographs point to the idea that in this world, death is the most impartial force, as it will eventually come for everyone, leveling the playing field. It is an absolute truth and is always right behind us. In these images, I seek to capture the premise that life seems to be just another eventuality—part of a transient environment that unites us all—reflecting a sense of solitude in which living beings connect with the same purpose, yet in diverse ways. Are we merely temporary beings in a vast stellar universe that reveals the complexity of our existence?
Yoel Acosta (Valencia, Venezuela, 1993)
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in Graphic Design from Arturo Michelena University (Venezuela) and a Master’s degree in Pedagogy, Management, and University Teaching from the Technological University of Peru. He has studied at leading photography schools in Venezuela, including Prada School of Photography, the Nelson Garrido NGO, and Enfocarte. In addition, he holds specializations and diplomas in Contemporary Art, Semiotics, and Advertising from countries including Spain, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, and Peru.
He has more than ten years of experience in the field of visual arts. Recently, he completed a specialization in Photographic Language at the Centro de la Imagen (Lima) and continues his training at the Espacio Fotográfico MG school in Argentina, where he is pursuing specializations in Madrid, Spain. He is the director and a founding member of the PrismaGif photography collective. He has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions and has been recognized with national and international awards in countries such as Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, the United States, Chile, Italy, and Spain.
He has produced photobooks featuring his work and is currently researching experimental processes for creating both digital and analog images, while teaching at various institutions dedicated to design, advertising imagery, and video.
